As part of the R-MAR project, a training program on managed aquifer recharge (MAR) was implemented between September – November 2025. The training sessions started with three online modules dedicated to understanding MAR benefits, assessing the feasibility and planing of MAR schemes. At the end of the three modules, an in-person session was organised in Nairobi, Kenya, between 5-7 November 2025. The training course was provided by a team from TU Dresden and arche nova and hosted by the UNICEF Office of Innovation and UNICEF ESARO. The in-person module in Nairobi was attended by about 35 participants from governments, UNICEF, UNHCR, IGAD, Xylem and the Regional Centre on Groundwater Resources Education, Training and Research (RCGW), as well as representatives from Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, and Kenya. The course covered theoretical, modelling and practical sessions, and provided the participants with valuable instruments to enhancing the resilience of water resources in drought prone areas.
