Since October 2024, Pierre-Yves Rochat, a Groundwater Specialist, is seconded to UNICEF ESARO Programme office in Nairobi, Kenya, by the Swiss Development and Cooperation (SDC). A first mission to Somalia was organised In November 2024 aimed at meeting the UNICEF team in Mogadishu, and visiting Dollow, the town targeted by the Programme. Specifically, the mission aimed at agreeing with the Programme consultants on the way forward regarding drilling, and further assess the feasibility of a Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) project. The 5-day mission took place from November 24 to 28, 2024 together with Jay Matta, Groundwater Specialist from UNICEF HQ who played an active role in defining the MAR project in Dollow.
